Winchburgh has a number of community venues including a Community Centre, Bowling Club , Golf Club and two churches with community spaces for hire. It has a new sports hub which includes two sports halls and a 25m swimming pool.
It has two new secondary schools – Winchburgh Academy and Sinclair Academy and two Primary schools – Winchburgh Primary School and Holy Family Primary School – each has a full nursey setting operating all year round. There is also a private nursery – Tiptoes Nursery operating from babies to school age and there is an active after school provision based at the community centre..
Winchburgh has an active main street which hosts two small supermarkets, a pharmacy, hairdressers, sweet shop, pet shop, food takeaways and an award-winning butcher. A cornerstone of the community is the Wee Winchburgh Café and the Tally Ho providing fantastic social environments for the community.
The Union Canal weaves through the village enabling residents to take a daily circular walk around the community stopping off in the new Auldcathie Park and enjoying a coffee from Coffee by Nico on the way or venturing further and cycling to Linlithgow or east to Edinburgh just 13miles away on safe tow paths.
In 2021 the first phase of the 85 acre Auldcathie park was opened – providing a major community led district park for the growing community – with a 100m play park (designed by local children) , a much loved dog park, a new home for the award winning Winchburgh Growers to develop their community growing and community events , a 5k Park Run Loop , a community woodland along with areas of green space for sports and casual enjoyment along with the coffee hut. In summer 2024 the second half – a further 40 acres of woodland will open along with a major addition to the play park of a boulder area and teen shelters. The Auldcathie sits adjacent to the new Secondary schools and is an extended area for their PE and wider environmental learning.
The masterplan will see in the near future two further major parks – Daisy Park and Hawkhill Park offering a diverse range of play and community enjoyment. The new town centre will see the development of additional retail spaces, a partnership centre and commercial officer space.
